Welcome to the Heartwood Guidance blog

I am so glad you’ve found your way here. This space is intended to be a sanctuary for reflection, learning, and growth, and I feel honoured to have you join me here. This is the first of many articles I hope to share with you. I wanted to start this blog by sharing a bit about my own practice, so you know exactly who I am and how I can help you.

The name Heartwood Guidance was chosen with intention. Heartwood is the central, supporting pillar of a tree. The dense, inner core that provides strength and stability as the tree grows. That’s what I’m here for, to help support you with your growth and your grief.

The Heart of My Practice

At Heartwood Guidance, my work is built on the belief that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to provide the structure, the tools, and the dedicated space for you to grow, heal, and find your own way forward. These four roles represent the pillars of my guidance.

Life Coach
Think of life coaching as a forward-looking partnership. We aren’t looking backward to diagnose the past; we are looking forward to unlock your potential. Where do you want to be? What do you want to work on? As your coach, I help you identify your values, set meaningful goals, and create actionable steps to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. It is about empowerment, intentional living, and the practical application of your inner wisdom to your daily life.

Grief Coach
Grief is not a problem to be solved, but a landscape to be navigated. As a grief coach, I help you map that territory. I provide a space where your grief is honored, not rushed or pathologized. We explore the unique ways loss has touched your life and work on integrating that experience so you can move through the world with a sense of wholeness, even amidst the pain. We look at how to live with loss, rather than trying to get over it.

End-of-Life Doula
An end-of-life doula provides non-medical, holistic support to those facing the end of their life, as well as their families. I also help with legacy projects and advance planning. My goal is to hold space for your wishes, providing comfort and practical advocacy so that the transition is approached with dignity, clarity, and peace. I am here to support the person dying and those who love them through the practical and emotional weight of this transition.

Educator
Knowledge is a powerful tool for transformation. As an educator, I host workshops and I translate complex concepts into accessible, practical wisdom. Whether we are discussing the nature of grief, the mechanics of habit change, or the logistics of end-of-life planning, my aim is to equip you with the understanding you need to feel confident and capable in your own decisions. Education removes the fear of the unknown, replacing it with agency and a clear sense of direction.

What I Am Not

It is important to be transparent about what I am not. I am not a clinical professional. I do not hold medical or psychological credentials, and the guidance I offer is distinct from therapy or medical intervention.

I am not a counsellor, a psychologist, a psychotherapist, or a psychiatrist. These professionals hold specific clinical credentials that allow them to diagnose and treat mental health disorders, manage trauma and issues from the past, and provide therapeutic interventions for deep-seated psychological distress. Their work is essential, and often, my work can sit alongside theirs as a complementary form of support.

While my work at Heartwood Guidance is deeply meaningful and transformative, it is distinct from these clinical services. I do not diagnose, I do not treat mental health disorders, and I do not provide medical or clinical therapy. My focus is on navigation, growth, and the holistic experience of living and dying.

Finding the Right Support

If you are struggling with a mental health crisis, deep-seated trauma, or a clinical diagnosis, a psychologist, psychotherapist, or psychiatrist is exactly who you need to see. They provide the clinical safety net that is essential for that kind of healing. There is no substitute for clinical care when it is needed.

However, if you are looking for someone to help you navigate a life transition, deepen your understanding of your own grief, plan for the end of life with intention, or gain the tools to live more authentically, that is where Heartwood Guidance comes in. I offer a space of advocacy, education, and structured growth.
